FCHUM Ministries News - Volume 13 Issue 4 - Autumn 2011

As September transitions to October, as Summer gives way to Autumn, I am reminded of the writings from Ecclesiastes, “to everything there is a season”. If you are at all familiar with the mission and work of FCHUM, you know that our seasons of serving seem constant because need is constantly growing. Therefore, we must be constantly vigilant in our planning and in the use of resources entrusted to us to serve our neighbors in need. Our summer of heat and drought is not far behind us and we remember our fatigue. It is also easy for us to experience seasons of compassion-drought or giving-fatigue when we are asked every season to help provide for ever increasing need. It is understandable to tire of hearing this need preached, to tire of opening this newsletter and reading of continued need. I, too, get tired. We must, then, remember to drink deeply of God’s Grace, to remember that each act of mercy and giving, each act of providing food, each act of caring for a frail older adult, each act of equipping children to do better in school, each act preventing homelessness are acts of worship. Links Golf Foundation

LinksJune, 2008 - For 13 years the Links Golf Foundation has been bringing men together once a year for a weekend of golfing fun and raising money to help good causes. Over those 13 years they have raised close to $250,000. This year Fern Creek Highview United Ministries is one of the beneficiaries of their effort. Much thanks to Councilman Robin Engel for helping FCHUM make the connection and to Dan Henle, a member of St. Gabriel and part of the Link Foundation for getting our name into consideration. This year’s event took place June 22nd and 23rd, in Carrollton, KY. FCHUM Executive Director Rev. Ron Loughry was able to help with the event on Monday and was impressed with the level of dedication these men had toward not merely having a good time but to raising funds to help those in need. We should know by the end of July just how much FCHUM will receive from this year’s effort. Thanks guys for a great effort!

Metro Council Helps Raise Funds for Fern Creek/Highview Ministries

basketballOn January 19, members of the Metro Council and Council staff took on the St. Gabriel Men's Club in basketball. This event helped raise $5,000 for the Fern Creek/Highview United Ministries Capital Building Project Fund. This year the Council squad was soundly defeated (to protect the innocent, we will not print the score!), but the team has vowed revenge in 2009!
